Fibroid removal and unprotected sex

Im due hysteroscopy to take out some fibroids and the letter says no unprotected sex or they cant go ahead with the procedure. It says after last period before op but I literally have such an unpredictable cycle I cant know that.

I really am this stupid but does a mirena count as protected sex or do they mean you have to use a condom.

Im too embarresed to call the admissions team.

Because you can't have it if there is a possibility of pregnancy. The easiest way is just not to have sex at all before hand as let's be honest, every form of contraception runs a risk of failing. It's not long to wait and much more important that you get the care you need - be it purely diagnostic or operative.

@Arlanymor - Thank you - the slight issue is i already had sex since my last period but before I got notice of the op

I have a mirena which hasn't let me down yet in terms of pregnancy for years.

But I thought what if they meant specifically condoms for infection or std reasons.

But it sounds like its just pregnancy they are concerned about it think im safe.

I cant believe i am 49 and havent actually understood the term unprotected sex.

Yes it's purely down to the possibility of pregnancy. It's bit like when they tell you not to have unprotected sex when you've just had the coil fitted. You'll be fine if it happened prior to your letter. Hope your procedure goes well.

back when I did this I had to abstain. It was many years ago.

You need to call and ask the hospital to clarify. They will have had this question many times. You will not be memorable. talking about periods and sexual habits in a practice that deals with women’s sexual health is part of the job.

Unprotected sex means sex without contraception. If you have an in-date Mirena then you are covered and don’t need to worry.
