Hi
anyone else still taking the combined pill after reaching 50 ?
I am 51 and still taking, been on Microgynon for over 10 years
back to back 3 packs at a time, and then get some spotting to stop , have a bleed and go back on. Doctors keep telling me to change to POP and patches.. dreading change over due to spotting, and all other problems i read about... want to stay on Microgynon long as I can but getting more difficult to get dr to give me prescription, I am aware of the risks, but not smoker, drinker and get blood pressure checked very 3 months.. can anyone give advice ? thanks

Why would you want to be taking the pill over 50? If you switch to HRT and take it with no break, you’ll never bleed again. Not sure what POP is? But HRT gives you plenty more benefits than the pill.

hi
thanks for your reply
POP is progesterone only pill
need to still have birth control
hear so many stories of people being on this and bleeding and having horrific problems

I switched from combined pill to POP about 5 years ago. Apart from one isolated spotting incident about 8 weeks in, I've had no problems whatsoever. My gynaecologist even questioned continuing POP at over 50, although her colleague, who I saw the next time, is happy to keep prescribing it.
