Low Iron, a cold and lack of understanding from DP

I’ve been suffering from low iron since November, with a Ferratin level of 26 which although isn’t super low, has given me lots of symptoms. I have had chest aching / pain, breathlessness, dizzy spells, palpitations, fatigue and lack of motivation.

Despite all this I have carried on functioning as much as I usually do, but end up having to sit down for a rest after a long walk or some physical jobs like housework or standing up doing dinner. DP keeps making snide remarks about this, even though I’ve explained how I’m feeling and what iron does for your body.

Now I’ve come down with a cold too, which I’ve been dreading happening as I was worried I’d struggle even more with a cold.

I haven’t looked ill on the outside, so it’s hard for him to see I’m feeling rough. I’ve been taking 210mg of iron and eating a better diet, desperately trying to feel better. He hasn’t done anything supportive and I feel like he is completely oblivious or resents me feeling crappy.

Has anyone else with low iron experienced a lack of understanding and empathy from their partner / family?

It’s a classic case of ‘he doesn’t need to understand, he just needs to believe you’.

Absolutely.
Your boyfriend makes snide remarks, does not care about your health, does not support you.
A relationship is for enhancing and easing your life.
Do you want to keep this man in your life?

Can't edit my post now, but to add-
It seems like you know about having low iron and what your body needs, so don't need any advice on this.

I recommend heated throws and a heated poncho-type top that heats up very warm. Having the house heating on does nothing to warm me up.

Think you have enough info on your iron defiency. As for husband. Well, because you are still doing all the household stuff he thinks you are OK.

So do less A lot of men have this outmoded attitude and it stinks. They think as a women you are thei4 servant.

Get your new medical stuff sorted out then tell him you have been told by your Doctor. Than you need lots of rest until you get better and won't be doing much housework until you feel better.

So it is his problem

And keep your word!!

Hope you start to feel better soon.

👍😻

My Ferritin is 16 and vitamin d 26. I started taking iron and vit d tablets and will see what's the improvement over the next few months. I feel so so tired at the moment between stuffs at home, work, the kids and winter sickness. I can't wait for the sun to come out and the temperature to rise 😅

You shouldn't be looking ill on the outside to get support from him. Hope you stand your ground and get a rest when you need it.
