I have an appointment tomorrow that I've been putting off for some time now, it's for heavy menstrual bleeding that I've had for around 3 years now.

I'm worried that my symptoms will just be dismissed as normal, or I'll be offered the pill as a solution.

Does anyone have any advice on how best to handle the appointment so that things are taken seriously please?

In the end I took photos of the blood clots I was passing & showed the doctor to prove how bad it was. I know that’s a bit gross but I think it’s the easiest way.
They made me try a different pill & a coil before letting me have an endometrial ablation (operation where they remove the lining of your womb.) That was over 3 years ago & I haven’t had any bleeding since. It has been life changing. It doesn’t work for everyone & there are some risks (like any op) but the consultant said if it didn’t work I could have a hysterectomy so I felt that it was worth a chance. You can’t have any more children after an ablation so have to be sure about that & they like you to be over 40.
Just thought I’d mention it as lots of people haven’t heard of it & I think it should be more widely available.

Sorry forgot to say - hope the appointment goes well & if you don’t get taken seriously please see a different doctor if you can. Keep pushing until you get something that works for you because no one should have to put up with it. You have my sympathy x

With heavy periods the best thing i did was have a mirena coil. Life changing! No periods at all, pmt gone. Unless you're ttc conceive then birth control really is a great option. Xxx
