Over the counter UTI remedies

I have recently become sexually active for the first time in a while. Almost straight away I felt as if I had a mild UTI. I could sense my urethra, a little burning after urinating but not much else. I went to my GP who gave me three days worth of antibiotics which did appear to clear it up but only for about two days. It’s straight back again. I’m just wondering if anybody has tried any of the over-the-counter UTI remedies that are around. I’ve been looking at P Happi and have read some good reviews of it.
Any thoughts please?

I'm in a similar boat, and I've found D Mannose an absolute godsend. I bought the high strength one off Amazon. I take the full dose before (if I remember!) or after sex, then for a couple of days thereafter and I've not had a UTI since, despite getting them all the time initially. Going for a wee after sex and drinking lots of water obviously both help here too.

Thank you Fluckle I’ll look that up

I did try P Happi too and wasn't impressed - it didn't work for me. Whereas this thread has just reminded me to buy another tub of the D Mannose.

Another fan of D Mannose here

Always pee after sex. Every time.

Don’t mess with a uti that hasn’t gone as it can embed in the bladder walls. Get some more antibiotics. The courses they give are notoriously too short. D mannose works for ecoli but no other bacteria, so if it isn’t ecoli it won’t work.

TBH, I’d just get some more ABx. I had a UTI that seemed to respond to trimethoprim but then came back a few days later with a vengeance - turned out it needed nitrofurantoin, once they’d sent a sample to the lab. UTIs are sneaky and shit and not worth playing with!

Angela Kilmartin is the guru. There is no one else.

The short version is
1). As above, always, always wee after sex
2). As you wee, pour cool water over your vulva with a bottle, jug or whatever. Always wipe from front to back. Pour the water after every use of the toilet if necessary.
3). Loads of lube,

TheSandgroper thank you. I’ll look her up.
I’ve taken another urine sample to the GP and will see what happens with that.

You can get antibiotics for UTIs from pharmacists now. I fully sympathise - I had a UTI, took a 5 day course of Macrobid & thought all good.....but it came back with a vengeance within 24 hours & I needed a 7 day course of trimethoprim.
Don't mess about, everywhere is closed tomorrow.

If you’re menopausal ask your gp for topical oestrogen, it replumps the area which can thin and allow contamination. Worked wonders for me after several bouts of UTIs.

Nocameltoeleggingsplease · 31/12/2025 13:33

I am on a daily antibiotic due to regular uti. They will prescribe if you are persistent.

Iocanepowder · 31/12/2025 13:42

Agree based on my own experience you need a 7 day course of antibiotics!
