Periods getting worse at 41?

ChristmasStressy · 14/12/2025 09:23

Lay in bed after 2 paracetamol, hot water bottle on my tum and still rubbing my feet together in pain.

Always had a rough day 1 but I don't know if the pain is worse lately or my ability to cope with it is dwindling.

Absolutely had enough of this shite now, wish there was an off switch.

That happened to me and (combined with other things) I think it was a symptom of perimenopause.

Sorry to say that this is how things tend to go for a lot of women in our 40s. For me the emotional symptoms really ramped up as well as the physical.
The Mirena coil was the "off switch" for me. Works brilliantly. Stopped my periods and all the emotional roller-coaster stuff completely.

I'm 39 and am experiencing the same. Wish they'd just piss off now😡

mrsnjw · 14/12/2025 13:18

I had a coil

I really don't want anything inserted or to take anything.

I had decades of hormonal contraceptives messing with me and DH got the snip so I could just stop it all.

If you are losing a lot of blood too then Tranexamic Acid has worked absolute wonders for me - less period pain as well as less blood.

A high strength ginger extract capsules can reduce bleeding.
Also ibuprofen - speak to doctor about maximum you can have in 24 hr period.
Mefamenic acid tablets - from doctor. Should be taken w food.
Get your iron levels checked - if you are anemic your bleeding will be worse. It’s a vicious circle. You bleed more your get more anemic etc. You could ask about iron supplements or maybe endometrial ablation.

No, my blood loss is normal, its just very bad pains when I start to bleed.

Unfortunately I can't take ibuprofen at all due to stomach issues.

I really miss it, as I found it much more effective than paracetamol.

41 this was me. It was the start of fibroid battle numb stomach, urine incontentence, regular uti’s, allien strange pressure in pelvic area, eventually after years of misery
Grew blisters on lower limbs, went to surgery to have them removed and the fibroid died a death there and then. Absolute lymph nodes playing up. A sibling recently had bowel investigations and lo and behold lymph blamed so why can’t it effect reproductive systems/bladder.

By 44 periods absolutely normal again. Scan 6 months very apart different results.

Off HRT now as long as I was on it. The coil went into clinical waste at 4 months which was the best thing for it.

Really there can be so many reasons.
