STI tests

Before he met DD, DD's boyfriend had sex with a girl on the pill but without using condoms. He has since done the urine test for chlamydia and gonorrhea which came back negative.

Should he also do the blood test for syphilis and HIV or are those a lot rarer?

They are both in their late teens.

They should both attend a sexual health clinic and seek advice from the professionals there. The clinician will privately go through each of their sexual history, risks, health etc and advise what tests they each need based on that. There are also clinics specifically for those under 24.

Good on the boyfriend for being tested, but I personally find it a bit odd that they have told you SO much about their own, personal sexual history. Each to their own.

To be on the safe side and for reassurance, it would be best that both DD and her BF do tests for all STIs, including the blood test for syphilis and HIV. If in the UK, this can be done easily via a postal test.

I’m a lot older and contracted HIV about 8 years ago when dating post divorce. I remember when I went to my local sexual health I was asked twice if I really wanted the HIV test as being such low risk. I’m assuming that they don’t use this line anymore.

Thank you for sharing this @HIVpos , I am so sorry to hear of your experience.

@JDM625 yes, I suppose it might be unusual but I'm glad I know so I could advise on testing.
