Ca125 raised

Symptoms are bloating, increased bowel movements and cramps, fatigue, heavy periods with massive clots and increased pain. Also seem to getting random period pains throughout the month.

CA125 is 50 which is apparently raised but pelvic ultrasound was normal.

Im obviously relieved ultrasound was normal but what’s going on and what is the GP likely to suggest now? Something isn’t right!

How old are you?.

How long have you had these symptoms?.

CA125 test is an inflammation marker. It can be raised if something like endometriosis is present.

GP should refer you to a gynaecologist for further evaluation. However, if you have the means to go private I would do this (you may well need a referral letter from the GP) as waiting lists to see gynaecology on the NHS in many areas are miles long. I would also suggest you keep a daily pain and symptom diary if you do not already do this as this could also give the gynae clues.

Endo is also not necessarily picked up on ultrasound scans; the usual way it is diagnosed is via a laparoscopy which is a keyhole surgery op.

Ok that makes sense.

I’m 41 so possibly perimenopausal?

Very likely to be peri-meno..periods go haywire around this time. I had similar & it’s scary as docs sometimes put you on 2 wk pathway for investigations- in vast majority of cases it’s nothing sinister. They might suggest a hysteroscopy. Opt for pain relief if they do!!
