Arthritis - recommendation for any supplements

When I wake up in the morning my left hand is like a claw with all finger joints ceased until I rub and get them moving. I'm assuming it is the start of arthritis - (I'm 55) and in my left hand only as it's my dog walking lead holding hand! Has anyone experienced this and found a supplement that improves. I'm not one for taking vitamins etc as am a firm believer you should get all you need from a healthy diet but perhaps I am missing a trick with this one. Many thanks

I’m not a huge supplement person, but if I were you, first I would go to the GP and get on treatment for arthritis, to slow the progression. Otherwise it’s going to get worse and worse.

Echoing first poster. You really need to see the GP.

I had x-rays and then my GP basically said 'unlucky, you have OA'.

I find that it can vary between very painful to almost gone.

What I find makes it much worse:

  • stress / lack of sleep
  • dairy
  • wheat
  • alcohol
  • sugar
  • cold environment

What I find makes it much better:

Good luck!

My grandfather swore by glucosamine . Its not a sugar based thing despite the name.

itsmeafterall · 21/11/2025 11:57

Turmeric with black pepper has been a game changer for me.

Also chondritn and glucosamine was recommended by my gp - a recent addition so not sure what effect it is having yet.

I also follow this chap on insta who has some useful exercises

Oh and I get my vitamins from 'british vitamins'. No nonsense packaging and decent price - this stuff can be expensive!
