Trying to bring on a herpes OB

ForQuirkyHelper · 02/11/2025 21:43

I know it's sounds mad but as the title says, does anyone know how I can prompt an OB. I believe I had 1st OB back in Feb, was absolutely traumatised, and I mean traumatised, had a nervous breakdown. Fuelled by betrayal that caused it. Didn't get tested, now in limbo land. I know what I saw, am almost certain it is what I suspect it to be. Did have blood test, positive for HSV1, which is useless as already get coldsores. I want a diagnosis for some peace.

I’m not going to comment on the sanity of wanting to bring on a herpes outbreak, but I generally get cold sores if :

I’m stressed (I think you can tick this one)
Have a lot of vitamin D
drink alcohol
take cocaine (it’s been a while)
Consume food & drink rich in argenine.

This is what I normally try to avoid if I feel an outbreak is coming on:

coffee
chocolate
nuts, seeds, lentils
whole grains.

all of the above increase argenine & suppress l-lysine so although might look healthy are terrible encouragers of herpes.

However I think that what you need isn’t a herpes outbreak, it’s some healing relating to a relationship breakdown or betrayal? I’m sorry you are going through this.

Thank you so much. Honestly it has completely floored me:-( I have tried therapy but stopped as re-living the chain of events weekly was making me worse. It is difficult, I asked this person specifically about his STI history and he lied straight to my face.

i think these should be banned, but it might work. The sun bed.

Strong UV light is supposed to trigger herpes, along with chocolate and stress.

if you already get herpes outbreaks on your face, I’m not sure why you’re so upset about having it on another area. At least it’s covered up.

The stigma around genital herpes and not oral herpes baffles me. The majority of new genital outbreaks are caused but HSV1 which is seen more frequently in the lips, due to everyone having oral sex. HSV2 is only slightly different due to a protein difference. But either way, if you’ve got herpes on your genitalia, it’s really no different than having it on your face, biologically wise. It still resides in the nervous system

I realise my comment above sounded flippant at your distress, I didn’t mean to minimise your reaction.

But please try not to let what is basically a minor skin condition, that will bother you a few days a year, take up so much of your head space

As above, In the UK, approximately 70% of people have oral herpes (HSV-1), often without symptoms, and estimates suggest around 1 in 8 adults may have genital herpes (HSV-1 or HSV-2). Many people do not know they have the virus because symptoms are not always noticeable, with some studies indicating up to 70% of infected people never experience symptoms. So you may never get symptoms again anyway! Maybe he thought he had been so long without symptoms he didn't have it any more, or maybe he has never had symptoms. Maybe you caught it ages ago and just got stressed so had a flare up. Many possibilities here.

Cold sores are pretty common you don’t even need to be obviously symptomatic to pass it on.
Change of weather and not using lip balm makes my sons lips awful.

No I totally get that. It's more psychological than physical. What is annoying me is I specifically asked this person about his STI history and he lied to me. (I had chlamydia at 28 and didn't have sex for 5 years after that). So it was important to me. I told him my fears. For someone to disregard those fears so easily blows my mind.
