Why did they give you anti biotic or you don’t have a urine infection? Are they testing for diabetes?

Countryfiler · 31/10/2025 10:51

Was there signs of infection in a sample? If not I’d be going back and asking to be referred for a scan to rule out other issues. Doctors are good at trying to put everything down to age/hormones etc but there can be other causes.

InfoSecInTheCity · 31/10/2025 10:52

Have you had any tests done at all?

urine sample for UTI
HbA1C for diabetes.

For me this was a symptom of T2 diabetes but that doesn’t necessarily mean it is for you. I was getting up 2-3 times a night and experiencing urgency during the day, would just suddenly desperately need to go.

KnickerlessParsons · 31/10/2025 10:53

When you say you “keep needing to pee”, how often do you mean? And how old are you?
Most women “keep needing to pee” as they get older, but not every 5 mins.

Shirlei · 31/10/2025 11:09

Hi
Im still waiting for the result of a test. I am 59 and honestly this morning I am needing to pee almost every minute!

blackwhitepink · 31/10/2025 11:10

What test?

Shirlei · 31/10/2025 11:20

Im not sure, perhaps for an infection.I gave a urine sample.

There are various reasons this could happen but, at 59, frequent urination or more frequent urinary tract infections, can be related to Genito-Urinary Symptoms of Menopause (which is the nicer and more current terminology for vaginal atrophy). Google this and, if you think it t matches your symptoms, discuss it specifically with your GP as there is a variety of creams and other medications that can help.

So a urine test then? Presumably the GP dipped it and checked to see whether it showed anything up before sending it to the lab, hence prescribing antibiotics. It’s strange to have no result yet since you are in the second course of tablets though. Have you chased it up?

This is very good advice, it happens a lot for menopausal women, and low dose topical vaginal oestrogen can help a lot to prevent them so look into that @Shirlei

InfoSecInTheCity · 31/10/2025 19:40

Menopause can also cause insulin intolerance as oestrogen is used in the process of triggering/releasing the right amount of insulin , so if diabetes is a possibility then it’s more likely to hit women around that point.

Having said that your symptoms do sound more like a UTI/bladder infection or irritation as while frequent urination is a symptom of diabetes you are describing a constant feeling of needing to wee.

EuroTour · 31/10/2025 19:51

Are you on any other meds?

TalulahJP · 31/10/2025 19:54

Drink plenty water (up to 2litres a day) and phone the surgery to find out if they are awaiting results from any tests done on your urine. If it’s a culture it could take a couple of days more but hopefully results on Monday.

Justputsomeyoghurtonit · 31/10/2025 19:56

Vaginal oestrogen cream. 'estriol'. Use it liberally. Your life will improve immeasurably.

Tigger1895 · 31/10/2025 19:56

Are you prone to constipation? I ask because I am and when I get bunged up, I feel like I constantly need to wee.
