Hi

My period was due 5 days ago. It started on the day I expected it but with a tiny bit of brown blood/discharge so I expected it to begin fully the next day or so. But so far for 5 days now I've just had a tiny bit of brown blood/discharge everyday, it's not changed colour of gotten heavier, it's such a small amount I barely need a liner. I definitely don't need a pad.

This has never happened before. Does anyone have any ideas we to why this is happening? I'm really confused!

I'm 33.
Pregnancy test negative.

Are you TTC? Sounds like a possible implantation bleed. Test again with FMU in a week or two?

Brown discharge is normal on a period, it's normally taking longer to leave the uterus, so a slower bleed and pass through the vagina, it has more time to oxidise, so turns brown. It is most common at the beginning or end of a period when flow is lighter and slower.

If it comes with a smell or pain, then maybe just get it checked out, it could be an infection. But otherwise it's fine. If you do want someone to have a quick look down there, go to a sexual health clinic they often do walk-ins or same day appointments. Just Google search for your closest one.

You could also look into some low dose topical oestrogen to help as you get into the peri period more, it can be really useful.
