Taking Fluconazole if you don’t have thrush

Will this do me any harm? I’m due to go away the day after tomorrow with DH for a child and pet free weekend. I’m wondering if I have a touch of thrush, it’s a little bit itchy down there, but I don’t have the discharge that I see described as being part of it. I don’t have time to get an appointment at the doctors before we leave 🤦🏻‍♀️

I tried a canestan pessary yesterday and the bloody thing fell out when I went to the loo earlier 🤦🏻‍♀️

it won’t physically harm you, but you will obviously be delaying sorting out whatever the issue is if it isn’t thrush.
I mean, it might be nothing, maybe a little dryness or irritation or whatever, but if it’s something else and the Fluconazole doesn’t sort it, then do book to be seen when you get back.

@ThisBadTimeIsTakingForever thank you for your response. Having read through some other posts, a few people report similar symptoms in perimenopause, so there’s a possibility it is that or something else.

I tried to phone the docs, the next prebookable appointment is not for 2 weeks and I’m not able to book straight with the nurse for swabs without seeing the doc first 🤦🏻‍♀️

If the pessary is falling out without dissolving it may be that it’s vaginal atrophy which means you are so dry you can’t dissolve the pessary - been there, done that. It can give you thrush type symptoms and is common in peri. You can get vaginal oestrogen prescribed - estriol cream, don’t get the Vagifem pessaries as you’ll have the same issue as with the canestan ones. For future reference you can buy a pre filled applicator with Canestan high strength cream (not the same as the external cream) that you can use instead of the pessary. (Amazon sell it or you can get it prescribed).

Taking a one off dose of Fluconazole won’t do you any harm at all - except maybe an upset stomach. I am on Fluconazole permanently long term due to invasive Candida due to autoimmune issues.
