Can sex cause breakthrough bleeding on mini pill ?

Started taking mini pill a year ago as had hormonal bleeding (I’m 42) and it has sorted that out. Had colposcope last year which showed no changes to cervix so I doubt anything serious has cropped up in a year but conveniently I have a smear booked on Monday anyway .

so it took a while for the mini pill to settle down with a lot of bleeding spotting. Then I was getting just one bleed a month until June when even that stopped. Horray! I thought , until now I bleed after sex. It’s not bright red but old blood and takes a while to appear , sometimes 2 days after dtd.

I’ve read that sex can cause the womb lining to shed when on the mini pill but I find this far fetched so just wondered if anyone else has experienced this?

i’m getting no other spotting at all now , only after sex .

Never had that or known anyone else to in my almost 15 years of taking the mini pill.

Just to note I’ve had to cancel my smear tomorrow as it’s turned into more of a period so they won’t be able to do it, I’ll have to book another one and avoid sex beforehand .

What does it say on the leaflet about side effects? If it doesn’t mention bleeding after sex, I would book a GP appointment.
