Where do you get your contraceptive pill from?

So the last time I tried to make an appointment at the surgery , the receptionist rang me and told me I should just go and get them from the pharmacy as they can issue them direct now. I didn’t know this and thought , oh great that’s more convenient.

That is until I try and get them . You can’t make an appointment and if I drop in I’ve been told a few times that no one can see me that day. If I ring ahead I usually get a stressed and snappy employee saying if I can get there before 5 and IF there aren’t too many people ahead of me then MAYBE I can get them . I work full time.

is this just the way it is now?

Just order them online. Most of the chain pharmacies, Boots/superdrug etc will deliver them straight to your door.

How much are they charging though?

I buy mine online. Superdrug are the cheapest for the brand I use (£26.99 for 6 months supply including delivery) but they aren’t always in stock so I occasionally buy from Health Express but they are quite a bit more expensive.

Lloyds online pharmacy.
Simple online pharmacy.

I get mine Lloyds pharmacy online and they deliver. It’s like £27 for 3 months I think?

I get my HRT from Oxford Online Pharmacy. See how the prices compare, make your choice. They give 10% off to new customers, I think, and they email you a 10% code every month if you subscribe to updates.

Online from Lloyds. My pill is £20 for 6 months delivered (I just have a generic POP mini pill). They send me reminders when my supply is getting low. Much rather spend £20 for no hassle.

My pharmacy also told me that they can issue directly, but I haven’t done it as it seemed like a faff. I’ve just continued to request a repeat prescription on the NHS app. That way I don’t need to go into the GP or phone up and I just collect once it shows on the app as approved

My daughter uses this service. You make a telephone appointment at a time of your choosing (evenings are available) and it’s completely free.

Don’t know why the link isn’t showing above! It’s Pharmacy2U

I popped into Boots and asked about my prescription for the pill - a pharmacist saw me straightway and issued a 6 month supply for me.

SquigglePigs · 18/09/2025 06:54

I get mine from my local pharmacy. I've not had the same issues you've had though. I called the first time but they said just pop in. The longest I've waited to see someone was 10 mins. Quick medical history check, blood pressure check, then they gave me a year supply.

Could you switch pharmacy?

I only really have Boots near where I live and work . I’ve maybe just been unlucky
