Found a lump in my breast

Hi,

Yesterday I found a lump in my breast and called the GP this morning and I have an appointment on Monday to see the GP. I know I will likely be referred under the two week rule as I had a breast lump checked out in 2016 when I was 21 that was just fatty tissue. I’m a very anxious person and have been none stop feeling the lump and googling all day, I’m worried sick. My brain keeps jumping to the worst case scenarios.

The lump feels somewhat moveable and feels oval in shape and quite small, I’m praying it’s something benign. Has anyone had a similar experience and it turned out to be ok? Being an anxious person especially surrounding my health I’m struggling already, my mind is racing 😣

Hi OP, I don’t think so . A friend of mine has had one since she was your age and has not had it removed . She has yearly ultrasounds to see if it’ s changed . I was not given that option, maybe because it was 20 years ago and things were done differently. Recovery from operation was quick and I never noticed the scar.

If yours is smooth and oval then I’d bet anything it’s a cyst. I’ve had several lumps and always been checked and it’s either been lumpy breast tissue or cysts. Even last time with the lump felt hard, irregular and unmovable (all bad signs according to google) it turned out to be a bunch of cysts all together. Hand hold though because I know how it feels.

Thankyou for responding! It’s oval and moves a little bit but not a lot and it just feels firm not really hard just firm and it doesn’t feel an irregular shape. I’m hoping it’s something like a cyst or something benign, I find myself panicking that it’s something really bad 😣 I am trying to stop myself from googling as I know I’ll only end up in a rabbit hole and I’ll make myself worse. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious 😣

Trouble is, you’re not going to find what you want on google. ‘Jadelrs breast lump is nothing to worry about’ so there’s no point looking. Try not to keep prodding it though, that will only make it more sore and swollen

I know I do have anxiety and especially around anything health related. I am currently in therapy for that and post natal depression, so I find myself just dwelling on things a lot more. I’ll leave it alone until I go see the doctor

I get it, and I know it’s easier said than done. Just keep yourself as busy as possible.
You asked earlier about mammograms, usually they’d only do an ultrasound on younger women although I did randomly get a mammogram once in my 20s and every doctor since has been baffled
to see it on my record

That’s what I’m trying to do. It’s my son’s first birthday in 2 weeks so I’m trying to keep focused on that. Yeah I had a breast lump when I was about 21 and I had an ultrasound done on that one. I’m guessing it’ll be an ultrasound again, the nurse I seen about the lump did say women under 40 don’t often get mammograms unless they really need too so I’m just assuming it will be ultrasound

I’ve been referred 3 times to the breast clinic for varying reasons. Again not going to say don’t worry. Try and keep busy. Organise, clean or batch cook. Whatever you need to do. Fingers crossed for you. X

I went through similar earlier this year and did a lot of research (not advised!). 90% of breast lumps are benign and not all fibrodenomas have to be removed. I had a fibrodenoma removed in March but that was only because in my particular case the biopsy was ‘undetermined’ although the consultant told me it was most likely to be a fibrodenoma. After surgery it was confirmed.

Fibrodenomas are much more common in 15-35 year olds so you fall within that category. I am (much!) older hence the consultant being cautious and advising removal due to the undetermined status. If the biopsy had been clear then I think the advice would have been to leave it and check every year.

The waiting is hard but you are in great hands. Try and concentrate on your lovely boy’s birthday although I know it is hard.

Hi, just thought I’d update this thread.

I’ve had my breast clinic appointment today and he said the lump is just glandular tissue. The ultrasound confirmed it that I also have lumpy breast tissue which he assured me was normal. Thankfully it’s nothing serious, I can breathe now 😌
