Hi,
Please could someone give me some advice on all this.
I’ve been getting pains lower right side and lower left for months and months, could be over a year. I also at times get pain in abdomen when bending over, and just down from naval and over to the left (not as far down as ovaries pelvis) I get a nipping type pain, sometimes (but not as often) I get pain in my lower pelvis/pubic area which feels like a fullness.

A few weeks ago I woke up feeling really sick and had bowel issues where I needed to go instantly but there wasn’t much of anything, prior to this day I had been constipated for 2 weeks. I felt awful and had a high temp and high pulse. Because I’ve had open tummy surgery before including part of my small bowel being removed I called 111. They said to go straight to A&E. I think they might have thought it was a bowel blockage, without saying to them I also thought this is what is was.
The doctor in A&E was lovely. Said blood test all looked okay, inflammation a little high but to go to surgical to get a scan. Had a ct scan with dye, was told I had 5cm ovary cyst and bowels looked fine and was being passed to gynaecology. At this point still couldn’t go to toilet,
had a transvaginal scan and I was shown black circle which was cyst right ovary, consultant also said looked like there was endometriosis there. Tried to look at left ovary but couldn’t see it (why do you think couldn’t see left one?)
left hospital couple days later with laxatives and to have laparoscopy at later date. Should also say consultant said the cyst could be causing the bowel issues.
saw the gp as one night I woke up middle night being sick for hours, being put down to insect bite, was told then there was 6cm cyst on one ovary and small one on the other.
is it normal be have them on both sides?
can they cause bowel issues?
could a cyst cause issues further up nearer naval?
could it be adhesions from previous surgery? Also had 2 c secs.
Will I not get scan first before laparoscopy to see if cyst went away or not? I was told at that size they generally don’t go away by themselves,
has anyone had anything similar or have any advice
thank you

Because they have already seen the cyst (normal to have one on both sides), what you need them to organise is a follow-up transvaginal scan (with your GP), to see if the cysts have gone down on their own or not. If they haven't, then they should refer you to gyne so you can get them removed.

They can cause bowel issues, especially if they are more stuck to your bowel wall. The GP can give you a longer prescription of laxatives and some pain meds as well for the cyst, so that while you wait for surgery, your symptoms can be somewhat managed. Till now, you seem to have asymptomatic symptoms, as in an acute onset from a few months ago, which typically wouldn't indicate a long-term issue, so I'd focus on the cysts first, and then if you think it could be another condition as well, then they'd likely see during surgery, perhaps ask them about doing this.

Yes they can definiltely cause issues.

I had a 10cm one, which was discovered during a period of complex health issues. At one point mine actually blocked my bowel (and I was vomiting diarrhea, which was the reason I was admitted into hospital) Once it stopped blocking my bowel, it caused me lots of bladder issues until it was removed.

Essentially imagine having a ball in that area. It can get in places it shouldn't be and can cause issues with whereever it ends up
