C Diff advice

I've just come out of hospital after a traumatic 2 weeks suffering with C Diff. It took a week to decide it wasn't food poisoning and in the meantime I became more and more ill.
I'm home now and finished the antibiotics today.
I don't have the raging diarrhoea anymore but my stools sorry if tmi are still very loose. Anyone have any experience of c diff and how long did it take for your body to get back to normal and how do you know you're no longer contagious. I didn't get a lot of definitive info from the consultants- they all seemed to have different opinions. Also did it come back again? I'm pretty traumatisedby the whole thing to be honest.

Hi OP you poor thing, it is really a devastating illness, I’m not surprised your traumatised.
I understand once you have finished the course of antibiotics, you mustn’t leave your home for at least 24 hours.
Also need to disinfect, surfaces at home, door handles anywhere you have touched basically.
All bedding,Towels, face clothes need to be washed separately 60 + hot wash from anyone else laundry in your home. I was a HCA for the NHS these are the things I can remember.
Also maybe an idea to contact your GP and advise them you have been hospitalised and want to discuss recovery and your wellbeing after a contagious infection.
I understand it can take a while to feel ok again lots of rest is probably needed.

Sorry OP I meant to say cannot leave the house for 48 hrs once you’ve finished the antibiotics.

I really feel for you, C Diff is nasty.

Take as much time as you need to recover. There is a well studied yeast based probiotic called Saccaromyces Boulardii which has been shown to help ease the symptoms and help prevent reoccuring infections. It's widely available from places like Holland and Barrett or online.

I hope you make a speedy recovery.

Thank you both. @BobButtonsismycat will have a look at the Holland and Barrett site.

How are you getting on now? My husband has been out of the hospital for two weeks now and still has diarrhea.
