Hi,

I wasn’t sure whether to put this in here or menopause so I’ve plumped for here!

I’m 49 and in perimenopause. My periods prior to peri were every 28 days on the dot. Then in the last 18 months/2yrs they started coming every 23/24 days and getting a bit lighter, lasting about 5/6 days in total. A few months ago I noticed they seemed to take longer to get going so spotting for a few days, light, medium then spotting so extending the whole process to about 10 days.

This last month I started my period on 1st Aug had the extended spotting, then the light and medium flow of my normal period. Then spotting again until last Thurs 14th. Then nothing until I started spotting again Tues, yesterday and today. Sometimes it will be there most of the day when I wipe but then today there was nothing until around late afternoon. It’s always just on the tissue when I wipe. Not enough for a pad or anything, though I do wear a liner anyway.

I’ve no pain or bloating. I do have PCOS. I was referred for a colposcopy in Feb which was all clear apart from slight erosion and some viral changes. A scan on my uterus at that point was normal. I had my most recent smear in the middle of May just gone, where my cervix looked normal and the there was no sign of the viral changes anymore. All normal.

Is this just peri do we think? And should I bother doing anything - like contacting the nurse at the surgery (she specialises in menopause)? I’m kind of leaning towards leaving it for now and just continuing to monitor (I track my periods so will continue that). I just wanted to check I wasn’t missing anything that needs checking out.

Thank you.

Thank you. I’ve only ever been on the mini pill once in my life and ironically gave it up due to constant spotting! That was a very long time though so might be worth another try.

Yes I admit it takes a long time
think I’ve been on it a year now and haven’t had any kind of bleed for 2 months currently.
before this it got down to once a month but I had to get past a lot of spotting in the beginning .
