Hey all. So today I decided to stop taking my desogestrel pill as I’ve had constant spotting and bleeding for almost 2/3 months and it’s really getting to me. If anyone’s been similar, how long did it take for your bleeding to stop and ease? Just so I have an idea.. thanks!

I went to the dr after a few months to come off because I hadn’t stopped breakthrough bleeding. She refused and said it needed six months. I stopped after precisely 6 months.

They’ve said the same to me - but it’s just really affecting me so I’ve decided to come off and see what’s what. How long did it take for your bleeding to stop after coming off?

Oh I haven’t come off, sorry if I was unclear! The bleeding stopped after 6 months and that was roughly 6 years ago. I’m still on it!

Ahh I see.. maybe I need to keep at it but it’s making me so miserable!!

I just felt dirty all the time, so I know where you are coming from but it will just stop one day out of the blue sky and then that’s it!

Im 52 and have had no bleeding whatsoever apart from the first month four years ago

Lucymcr82 · 21/08/2025 17:31

I had this for 3 months. Bled the whole time.

I decided to stop taking it on Sunday. It wasn’t just the bleeding but really made my moods so up and down. Think I’m now having a withdrawal bleed as it’s like a ‘proper’ period. See how it goes!!

i really want to stop taking this to see if its contributing to my gut problem. At 52 with a 69 year old partner that doesnt ejaculate (but orgasms) he has type 2 diabetes plus he was told he "fires blanks" although i do know doctors can be wrong plus im overweight , i dont think our chances of conceiving are high but being child free by choice it still makes me nervous, Ive been taking this for the last four years and three and a half years ago i started shitting a lot more which would reduce its ability to work anyway. Has anyone else had stomach problems while on Desogestrel It has stopped my periods completely .......well either that or the menopause has.
