Ultrasound scan waiting times

My GP has requested an ultrasound scan I thought would be urgent but have been waiting a month already is that the average times or longer. I wasn’t given any information before hand. Thank you in advance.

I waited around 9 weeks recently for an urgent one, then 3 weeks for results. Then another 4 weeks for an urgent mri, and then 5 weeks for the results from that. Hopefully they won't keep you waiting much longer

@Spanador My goodness. All that must of been difficult especially if something appears serious. Thank you. I have an ultrasound scan last February had an appointment in 2weeks and 1week for result outcome… was probably expecting similar…. Urgent isn’t classed as urgent anymore… reassuring I’m not being forgotten..

Mine took 9 weeks, the GP thought that the waiting list was 5. May I ask what the ultrasound is for?

Bumblejumbleday · 12/08/2025 14:37

@fluffythecat1 My Gp did the request on the 14th July. I’ve just been seen by gynae for severe bloating pain and heavy bleeding - As I’m 50+ think they like to rule things out! 9weeks is a long wait. 😊

I had a most post-menopausal bleed in March (I'm 51), I the GP wasn't sure if I was post-menopausal or not because I haven't had a period for 7 years (on the progesterone-only pill), but put me on the list for a scan. It took 9 weeks, it was abnormal, so I heard back from the GP within 2 days and was put on the two week wait pathway to rule out cancer. Had a hysteroscopy and a biopsy which came back normal, which was a relief. Are you post-menopausal?

Bumblejumbleday · 12/08/2025 16:41

@fluffythecat1 Oh right. That must of been concerning if not confusing for you … 🫤 to be honest between clinicians the understanding of when you’re in actual ‘ menopause’ differs slightly. I personally don’t think I’m having ‘ periods’ but I’m no expert.. just have a feeling things are different. I’m a way I want them to find something so can be treated accordingly as will explain my reason for all the discomfort. But also not wanting anything wrong! 😑 pleased to hear all was okay for you 😊

I’m 37. I was referred in May as non urgent . First date given was July but I cancelled due to being away. I had it today. Results back in a week they’ve said.

Bumblejumbleday · 12/08/2025 20:07

@rainsbows Thank you for commenting-) it appears not much between non urgent and urgent appointment times . Obviously depends on what area you’re under. In the nhs trust I’m under we have 3/4 different hospital options. Hope you have good news or answers to your reason for US scan 😊
