Hi, had my surgery on Tuesday.

Surgery all well but I had a panic attack, collapsed and spewed up ALOT. Nursery had given me codeine and it obviously didn't agree.

Now 5 days and I feel fuckin shit. The gas pains are killing me I can hardly walk up straight & I'm head to toe drenched in sweat. I also haven't pooped since pre surgery.

Has anyone else been the same?. I can up with most of it other than the gas pains, feels like I'm having contractions 😩

Any advice welcome x

Codeine causes awful constipation, as does the morphine you will have been given during the op. Sitting around and not moving much also doesn’t help, but I know it’s difficult post op.
The best advice I had after my hysterectomy was to walk 5 mins each day, increasing the time each week, it really helped.
Get some Dulcoease (not DulcoLAX) once you’ve been you will feel loads better. If you can’t get that, get some fybogel.
The gas is awful, the best thing to do is keep moving, drink peppermint tea and wait for it to pass.
Check your temperature so you can rule out post op infection, but I’m guessing you will feel loads better after a poop tbh.
2 kiwi fruit a day, a table spoon of chia seeds stirred into warm water and knocked back quickly, 5 dates each day can also help with constipation. Try and have a 5 -10 minute walk each day too, it helps get things moving.

I hope you feel better soon.

Restoralax, fluids, walking and plain Tylenol if you’re still having surgical discomfort.
Food choices consistent with your constipation (soup and fruits, don’t bung yourself up more with bread and pasta).

That does not sound normal and it’s probably worth getting real life medical advice (either via the surgical ward or 111). (Doi fwiw: anaesthetist)

Mintec tablets will help. I felt really bad for a week with gas pain. You should get checked out for the sweating though in case it’s an infection/sepsis.

Which part?

Which part?

It’s not normally much of a procedure. Severe pain for 5 days with bowels not opening and sweats raises some questions about whether there’s a more serious bowel problem than ‘just’ straightforward constipation. Real life HCP should be able to go through some more questions with you to work out if it’s more of a problem or just a rough but normal recovery.

How are you doing? I am one day ahead of you with recovery, so waching with interest. I didnt 'go' for 5 days, and felt much better after. But as the others said, the fever is concerning and my leaflet says to get help from 111 or GP if that happens. Good luck .

Ask about getting an abdominal ultrasound and a pelvic ultrasound and a transvaginal one as well. You may need a more detailed scan like an MRI or CR (both with contrast to see the liver). I'd perhaps want to see gastrology (subspecialty in heptology/liver) or a general surgeon before I saw a gynecologist. As an inflamed liver can be serious. So perhaps ask about that.

What infection markers came back high? What else has the GP suggested so far?

They've cut my bowel during the sterilization and we're thinking of performing surgery but have decided to drain my pelvis and try loads of different antibiotics x

That makes sense as a plan going forward. What specialists/doctors have you seen so far?
