Two week wait pathway for possible gynae cancer, biopsy clear, back to normal?

Had a post menopausal bleed and was put on the two week wait pathway for suspected endometrial cancer after an abnormal scan. Had a polyp, thickened ‘poorly defined’ endometrium, fibroid and cyst on ovary. Hysteroscopy and removal of the polyp showed that the polyp was benign.
The gynaecologist said that she would see me in 4 months time just to have a check on the cyst, although she said that it ‘was not cancer.’ I’m obviously relieved that I don’t have cancer, however I don’t know if it’s a good idea for me to stay on the progesterone only pill, if I’m liable to get more polyps, or why my endometrium was thickened. Not sure if anyone else has been through this process and if I should just presume that everything is fine as long as I don’t get another PMB.

How OP, good to hear that your biopsy was clear. How long have you been post menopausal? Perhaps you're hormones are still fluctuating and hence the thickened lining. I would speak to your GP for further advice on the mini pill. My understanding is the mini pill helps to thin the lining.

thank you, I wasn’t 100% sure that I was menopausal, 51 and on the progesterone only minipill for 7 years so no periods, however came off it 1.5 years ago and didn’t have a period + the bleed in March was for 9 days and hasn’t missed a pill. The blood tests I did in June confirmed menopausal because follicle stimulating hormone was 49, postmenopausal level.
It’s likely that the progesterone only pill was protective since I read that unopposed oestrogen is a risk factor for womb cancer. I didn’t have a proper conversation with a medical professional at any stage of the process, the gynaecologist doing my hysteroscopy just said I had a polyp and a cyst, got me to sign some forms and had me on the table within 10 minutes so I feel quite in the dark about what the whole thing was about really. Grateful to be cancer free and understanding the pressures the NHS are under of course.
