Hey, I’ve just been prescribed tranexamic acid to take alongside my desogestrel to help with prolonged bleeding. Has anyone else taken this alongside it before and how quickly does it work?
Also, the GP wasn’t very clear but I take it for 4 days and then stop altogether and only take again once bleeding returns? I’m a tad confused!!! And the GP was literally like ‘well put up and shut up’, as helpful as a chocolate teapot x

Take it for the first 4 days of your period or the 4 days your period is heavy then stop until the following month. Works well for me. Hope it does for you too OP

The mini pill will likely settle soon (as you haven't been on it long, it takes a while for people). Take the Tranexamic acid before your period (2-3 days) and then on it as well. Unless your GP specifically said to take the whole month do not because it's likely not safe (pharmacist always says that to me and the page in the medication box as well).

So since February I’ve been on it. But then had bleeding and up and down feelings since end of April/May..

It can often take up to 6 months so I'd still give it some time or look at switching perhaps. Maybe try the mirena coil (it thins the uterus lining so you bleed less) and I'd have a chat with your GP to clarify the med situation and see about a switch. You can still take Tranexamic acid with the mirena as well.

Well the GP today was very ‘we can choose the brand the pharmacy give’ so I might talk to them direct. Will see how I get on whilst on holidays and see where I’m at when I get home!

I had to come off Desogesteral,as I was spotting all the time, then it just got more and more and wouldn’t stop.i went on combined pill and no problems again.

Well I was on Zentiva branded desogestrel. They’ve now put me through a prescription for Zelleta branded which I can collect tomorrow. Maybe this will help!! Anyone else had experience of changing brands?
