Heart palpitations..do I need to see the GP?

I’ve had them for the last two weeks and feel they’ve steadily got worse. Last night they felt so heavy in my chest. I also get them when I’m tired so I take myself off to bed and by the morning they’ve gone, but can come back during the day. There’s no pain I’m experiencing just heavy palpitations and I’m worried about it. I’ve been taking sertraline for the past two years so doubt it’s my medication. Any advice welcome, thanks

Make an appointment to see your GP…

I would. I had the same last week. Intially I assumed it was a stress or menopausal thing (I’m 50) but when it didn’t go away I saw my GP and after my blood tests came back they showed raging thyrotoxicosis and I was able to start medication straight away.

The GP did say he’s seen lots of women assume the symptoms of hyperthyroid are menopause, so don’t get medical advice as quickly as they should. Obviously the cause of yours might be completely different, but thought I’d mention my own experience!

Sympathies - the sensation is blinking horrible, isn’t it?
