Context before I explain the issue - my cycle is 29 days long , heavy , last for around 7-9 days and I use a mixture of pads and tampons . Normally when I’m on my period it’s heavy then gets lighter and stops and starts after day 5/6 and changes between pink/old brown blood. I came on my period on Sunday , was heavy Sunday, Monday and Tuesday , non existent yesterday and the majority of today, just been to the loo and lost red blood again 🤦‍♀️ is this normal ? For context I’m definitely not pregnant x

sounds similar to mine. Mine have got worse the older I’ve got, normally have heavy days 1-4, nothing on day 5 then heavy day 6 and then it usually stops.

im not one of these people who it gets lighter the more days it goes. Day 6 seems to be a flooding day and then it stops.

Hey yes it’s been this way for me too since my 2nd child. It’s so so heavy for the first 2 days or so - then drastically reduces to the point I think it’s fine - then the next day or the next jt suddenly gushes out red again.

makes it very difficult

i will go to the gp as the heaviness of days 1 and 2 is ridiculous - I leak and can’t go to the office

Yes I've had start and stop periods on those same days. Very annoying.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 24/07/2025 23:16

And it makes the whole period last longer. I used to be 26 days and I'd bleed for 10 days and so if only get 2 weeks off. Very frustrating

Are you coming up to middle age by any chance? Late 30s on. My periods are definitely changing as time goes on. They're getting a bit shorter and I skip one about twice a year

@Mpark This is absolutely not normal. Go to your GP you can get tranexamic acid (helps with heavy bleeding), andor mirena coil (thins the uterus lining = less bleeding + less cramps). Also ask for NSAIDs (reduce pain and inflammation) such mefenamic acid and naproxen. You need bto start taking NSAIDs days before your period starts so that it can work at best capacity.

The same with ibuprofen and/or paracetamol. Start taking it 3/4 days before and it will be much better.
