Worried about how long I’ve been waiting for colposcopy

I had a text from the GP four months ago saying my smear had come back as abnormal and that I would need further treatment. This has happened with smears I’ve had before so I wasn’t panicking. I just waited to hear from the hospital.

After 2 months I called the GP to let them know I hadn’t heard anything and they said to call back on a couple of weeks if I still hadn’t. I left it 4 weeks and called again. They said they can see my case is being triaged and to continue waiting. Another month has passed now and still nothing.

I’ve had abnormal smears before and don’t ever remember waiting this long. I looked into going private and it was £2k which I don’t have.

I know how the NHS is but is this just how long the waits are now? I suppose I’m thinking the smear was done 6 weeks prior to the results so that’s potentially 5 and a half months of something going untreated and getting myself a bit worried!

You should have had an appointment by now. I had smear in April, Colposcopy in June for borderline changes.

I would chase this op.
I had my first abnormal result this year without cell changes so now have to wait a year to be tested again. I was told it’s a very slow growing virus and not to worry but it is easier said than done. Good luck.

You should have a patient liaison service at your local Trust you can contact to help you speed up your appt.

Thanks all. I’ll follow up again.

Presumably your previous colposcopys were done at a hospital? Do you still have their details? I'd drop the gynae dept an email or can them it definitely shouldn't be that long a wait

Agreed

They were carried out at a hospital that no longer offer gynea procedures unfortunately. I’ll have to go to a different hospital this time round so unsure what their wait times are like.
I’m going to follow up today with the GP and see if they can offer any more advice for chasing it up. Thanks for everyone’s input!
