Desogestrel and periods

So I started desogestrel in Feb (8 weeks post partum) and had a normal period that month. I then had nothing apart from some brown spotting now and then, but the last couple of weeks I’ve had constant brown spotting which over the weekend has turned into a normal (albeit lighter) period. GP said it can take 6 months to settle and to give more time before possibly coming off and changing pills.

Just wondered if anyone else had similar experiences?

I have been on this pill before - 8 years ago after my son was born - then came off it a couple years later - had a two week period then they stopped a paper from a random one now and then!

I have been on this pill for a similar time, except in my case it's for perimenopause. My periods have been nuts the whole time. Long, some very heavy and some very light. Doc said it should settle within 3 months but when I went back they said it could take longer. Worth going back to your doctor I think. Will be interesting to see what they suggest.

Yeah I've been taking it for about 18 months and my periods have got more settled, but still a bit all over the place. Tend to not have any bleeding for six weeks, and then a period lasting about 5 days (normal for me) and then 3-4 days of additional spotting/ very mild bleeding. Then back to six weeks of nothing. GP is very relaxed about it and TBF I'm so used to it I don't really mind any more. The first few months were a real mess though, it definitely took me a while to adjust.

Thanks both! I spoke to the GP last week and she said give it another couple months to settle as they say up to 6 at times. Just really frustrating not knowing what to expect day on day/week on week!!

I’ve been taking it since Covid after my implant expired and I couldnt get a new one fitted and haven’t had a single period since. It’s like a miracle pill for me as I had very heavy periods with clotting and flooding when I’m not on contraception.

I was given desogestrel to control my periods before starting IVF (clinic said it would be cheaper to get this prescribed by GP rather than getting norethisterone from them) and my body completely ignored it and just kept having periods exactly when it normally would have done. The IVF clinic had to just wait for me to be ready rather than timing my cycle to suit them.

So I’ve now had a (light!) period for the last two weeks. A couple of heavier days but nowhere near as heavy as a normal pre-pill period. Contacted the GP for other advice as it’s beginning to annoy me, plus I feel v hormonal! She’s seeing me on Wednesday..
anyone else out there had similar?

Well I was on Zentiva branded desogestrel. They’ve now put me through a prescription for Zelleta branded which I can collect tomorrow. Maybe this will help!! Anyone else had experience of changing brands?
