Hello, would really welcome some feedback from women who also have a copper coil. I’m in my early forties. My periods in the last ten years have been getting progressively heavier and more clotty, presumably perimenopause-related.
I had the copper coil inserted about two and a half weeks ago and I haven’t stopped spotting since. It has been enough for me to need a pad every day. No major pain; some minor cramps at most on the day of fitting and a couple of days after.
Mostly the spotting blood has been brown, with the odd small brown clump, but with occasional bits of redder blood that looked more period-like.
Pretty sure my actual period started yesterday (two days early) and the blood is totally different to my normal period.
Previously my period blood was very clotty and mucousy, but this time it’s thinner, like actual blood. To the point that when lying down, the blood is thin enough to run back and escape my sanitary towel. I seem to recall my period blood being more like this when I was a teenager - when I sit on the toilet, it now actually drips, rather than coming out in thick strings of blood/mucus when I bear down (sorry, I know that’s utterly revolting!).
Anyone else had this? Does this not bode well in terms of the coil working for me?
I have low iron so I don’t want to lose more blood than I need to. I’m aware this is a much bigger drawback of the copper coil, but I’m not ready for the hormonal one yet because I’m wary of messing with my hormones due to a history of depression.
