Bad smear - coils disappeared

I went for my routine smear today. After the nurse having a look she went to get a doctor as she said she wasn't sure she could see my merina coils strings. The doctor then had a look and told me she couldn't see them either and its looks as though something is there it looks swollen/sore/trying to heal. She just kept saying she was really sorry and not to worry. Which just worried me.
I had a bad smear in 2018 pre cancerous cells highest level and had the laser ablation which worked great and now back to routine 3 year checks.
I've always had merina coils and they always worked perfectly. I had this one put Feb 2021 due to be removed next Feb.
Just wondering if anyone has had an experience like this before? I dont know whether to be scared about cancer again or what on earth has happened to the coil.

My mum had this happen. She also had pre-cancerous cells and the laser done. She still has no idea what is going on as the GP won’t refer her again. Her records were lost, then after Covid she’s never been able to get anywhere with getting it dealt with.
make sure you have this followed up and don’t let them fob you off like they have done to my mum.
