Hi, not sure if this is the best place to post, but here goes.

I’m going to be on my period for part of my summer holiday and wanted to know if you can swim with a tampon, I’m thinking from a physical (ie lots of kicking of legs) and hygiene perspective?

I wouldn't without some period swimming bottoms or something

TooManyNiblings · 18/06/2025 17:48

Yes, it's fine. It's what we did before period swimwear existed.

Glowinglights · 18/06/2025 17:48

Yes, I’ve always swam using tampons if on my period - that’s my main reason for using them tbh

Before all these period pants it’s what everyone did, swim with a tampon! I can honestly say it’s fine and I’ve never heard of a lady that has had a problem with it!

Yes you can. When I started my periods, my mother gave me a stash of pads and tampons and left me in the bathroom, but reminded me I went swimming a lot. (I swam several times a week. I still swim a lot biut not as much as when I was a teen.)

So I used tampons, and used them all the time till I got a moon cup.

If you are prone to flooding or heavy periods, then I would probably double up with period swimming cossie, and change protection just before going in the water.

Yes you can - do it at least once a month without an issue.

Great - thanks all, that’s really reassuring
