Hi.
I am about to have a BSO and was all set for the ooeration but my friends have been advising me against it, saying that it will make me 'crazy' and that I will need to take HRT afterwards which will make me put on weight!
Can anyone offer any useful advice, or share some positive experiences of it please, just to put my mind at rest?

I am 53 years of age and have been going through the menopause for about 6 years.

Thank you.

HRT doesn’t make you put on weight, menopause does. HRT replaced a small amount of oestrogen that your overuse used to produce. It’s been a godsend for me with menopausal symptoms and they will have to rip it out of my cold dead hands before I give it up! Menopause will shrivel up your ovaries naturally soon anyway so I wouldn’t use that as a reason to do not to go ahead which is presumably for a very good medical reason.
