Large Ovarian Cyst

I’ve had a bit of traumatic couple of weeks. Previous to that I had what I thought were 3 UTI’s in 6 months. Took urine samples to the doctors who prescribed antibiotics. They decided to investigate with an ultrasound the week before last. When they got my results through 5 days later they said I needed an urgent transvaginal ultrasound and bloods taken so they were done the next day. On the NHS app it said I needed an urgent referral for suspected ovarian cancer which scared me so much as I hadn’t been told this. Within a week I had an appointment with a consultant and had another ultrasound, transvaginal scan, biopsy taken and had an MRI this morning. The consultant said I have an ovarian cyst which measures 17cm and a lesion in my pelvic area. She said I would either need my ovaries removed or a full hysterectomy. I’m in a lot of pain and look like I’m pregnant. Just feel so uncomfortable and down in the dumps. Any advice on what helps with the pain. The thought of a hysterectomy scares me so much. I’m 48 with two children so definitely not planning on having more.

You have my sympathies OP I had a similar sized one but mine kept bursting so I was hospitalised a few times before they worked out what it was.

I had the offending ovary removed. I am much better now. For pain relief, well I recommend morphine but you can't get that easily out of a hospital, tramadol might help.

Talk through your options with your Dr. One option I discussed was being put in to the menopause early but I just wanted the ovary out.

Thank you so much for your reply. I’m in so much pain and it’s really getting me down. I have now got a follow up appointment on 16th July but it feels like that’s ages away. I ended up in A&E on Friday and was given strong pain relief to bring home which has helped. I just feel it’s consuming my life at the moment 🫤

my sister had this. Her ovarian cyst was 9lbs. She had it taken out and a full hysterectomy. Not going to lie she said it was brutal. recovery and then fully into the menopause. I’m sorry this has happened to you.

I know it is painful, I think it was the worst or second worst pain I have ever had. Sorry there isn't much else I can say other than at least you know what it is and what the options are.

I wish human women were better designed, instead of starting periods at puberty we should have an 'on/off' switch that you just turn on when you want children.

As for childbirth, why can't we have something more like an eye lid?
