Can this be a peri symptom? Eyes so dry it’s affecting my vision according to optician and mouth is also really dry particularly in the morning.

could it be hormones?

Maybe worth getting blood test for autoimmune conditions. Sjogrens presents with dry eyes and mouth.

Icanttakethisanymore · 05/06/2025 23:07

my mum has this and it’s due to Sjögren's syndrome. I’m sure it’s more likely to be hormonal but if you are struggling to fix the problem and are looking for alternative causes, it might be worth investigating this.

I have the same, and it’s Sjogren’s. Do you ever get pains in your main saliva glands where the hinge of your lower jaw meets your ear lobes? (Sorry can’t explain it much better than that! I think they’re called the parotid glands). Also, any aches in muscles and joints? My illness began bothering me in my early forties but I was only diagnosed in my early fifties. Sorry, it can be rough especially the mouth and later, you lose all lubrication “down there”, so DTD becomes a bit of a production

I’ve just been diagnosed with Sjogrens at 50. I’ve plugs in my tear ducts, prescription toothpaste and a cream for gynae issues. Other investigations ongoing!!

hepsitemiz · 06/06/2025 14:02

Hey @northernstars can you tell me which toothpaste you use please???

northernstars · 08/06/2025 21:47

@hepsitemizApologies - it’s this one I got on prescription from my dentist. I’m in Ireland though - it might be over the counter there.

Thanks @northernstars! I’ll have a look here in France for the closest version

If you’re looking for something to help your eyes, Hycosan night is amazing, I’ve suffered with dry eyes forever, discovered it this year and it’s great. They also do daytime drops.

Watermelonice · 09/06/2025 07:43

@hepsitemiz @northernstars can you please tell me what tests you had for a diagnosis?

I have all the symptoms and feel dreadful but go has only done basic bloods and because ESR and CRP were in normal range they aren’t doing anything else. Is it worth me getting another test? If so what?

hepsitemiz · 11/06/2025 06:20

@Watermelonice Im in France so it’s probably different. After over a year of blood tests I switched consultants and new guy was sure at my first meeting that it was Sjogren’s. I spent a full day in hospital doing scans, MRIs with that contrast injection, they put paper matchsticks in my eyes to measure tears, got me to spit in a test tube to look at saliva then they cut out a couple of saliva glands to look at under microscope (they were “dead”). Plus took about thirty tubes of blood! Then I waited ten days for the results…

Yes, dry eyes is definitely a peri symptom but I'm not sure about the dry mouth too.
