Colposcopy today, feeling pretty anxious…

Morning Everyone,

Not quite sure why I’m posting, I’m guessing perhaps I’m just in need of a bit of reassurance and support…

Ive got a colposcopy today, and even though I’ve had one before, I can’t shift this anxious “what if” feeling….

My smear came back HPV - & low grade dyskaryosis following a negative smear three years ago…

Ive been testing positive for HPV ever since the roll out in 2018 (except for 2022 when I finally got a negative) had colposcopy in 2020 with biopsies showing viral only…

Guess I’m just looking for some positive stories in the hope it’ll ease my mind ahead of my appointment today…

Appologies for the random “non post” 🩷

I don't have a positive story but you are doing the right thing. Good luck today, hopefully there won't have been any progression.

Good luck! The staff are usually brilliant at chatting away during the appointment and it will be over before you know it.

I’m having my 3rd in two weeks as I also have low grade cells (again!). My previous biopsy came back as CIN1 and cleared on its own but is now back since I can’t shift HPV.

Let us know how it goes x

Oh my goodness, so sorry you’re also going through this too! So many people say HPV just won’t shift… I wish they wouldn’t tell us it “just goes away in a year” because in a lot of cases it’s an absolute load of tosh! 😒

I’m hoping and praying it goes to plan today.. I’m so nervous 😥 even though if been here before and it’s only low grade, my head just won’t shut up… xx

What is your main worry? Cancer or cell changes? If cancer, I understand that it would be YEARS away, with cell changes in the interim.

If cell changes, yes it's possible. But, you are being checked regularly and early. Any affected cells can be removed relatively easily.

I've been through it a few times with CIN3 removed with a loop excision after first baby, biopsy removing the cells the second time after 2nd baby, and I opted for a hysterectomy the 3rd time, to remove the cervix entirely. 3 children by then, so the right decision for me, but otherwise I could have had another loop excision. Risk entirely removed and no more smears needed.

I hope this counts as a positive story.

I’ve commented on 3/4 threads over the past week with quite a few having persistent HPV but it’s hard to find anything online about what they actually do if it’s hanging around for longer than 12-24 months.

I hope you’re appointment is over now and all went well.

How did it go @sammie1306?

How did it go @sammie1306?

Really good thank you 😊 the nurses were very nice, took my mind off it, I told them I was feeling very nervous about it, so they were extra chatty…

The nurse did the iodine and the vinegar and she said she could only see the HPV, nothing more really but she did do two biopsies just to be sure and put my mind at extra ease 🩷 she said if they come back with just HPV then I’ll be back on a 3 year recall and if it’s low grade like the smear suggested I’ll come back for a smear at the hospital in 12 months.

The adrenaline is still quite high but I do feel much better about it, thanks so much for asking 😊🫶🏼

It’s a pain in the arse isn’t it. If I have to go again this year it’ll be 3 years in a row . It’s horrible having it hanging over you for so long and waiting for the results is the absolute worse .
