HPV positive , normal cells

Michrose · 28/05/2025 15:31

My smear came back normal last September but HPV positive. I was told high risk over the phone and just to come back in a year when invited to check if gone. The letter said HPV positive , normal cells , low risk cancer . No strain was mentioned . I have health anxiety . Went to the dr who told me not to worry as so common and I don't need to do anything . However I have been taking various supplements . One being ahcc 3G per day and haven't been unwell at all since taking it last September . I am so worried that I haven't cleared HPV and abnormal cells developed since last test. I don't know why the strain wasn't mentioned as I have read 16 and 18 are the riskiest . Anyone in same boat as me . I am 47 btw .

Sorry to hear you're stressed about this. But HPV is very common unfortunately. Most cases don't progress to cancer. Most cases of HPV also self heal. And even if it started to cause changes to cells, that's also not cancer. The doctors will do a colposcopy to analyze the cells. If it's low grade, again your body can didn't it itself. If higher grade, procedures can be done to get rid of it. Please don't worry. I know easier said than done. Which brand of AHCC are you on? Put of curiosity, do you think it was newly acquired HPV or a dormant one that reactivated? I got a positive HPV result too. Total shock as I've been monogamous for decades and trust my spouse. My GP said it can lie dormant and I've heard perimenopause can reactivate it.

Well I have always been negative up until now xx I think a guy I was maybe dating last year for about 4 months may have passed it on . Kinoko ahcc is what I use, also had b12 injections. I just wish I never dated the guy now then maybe I wouldn't have got it but maybe I caught years ago and when my immune system was low it triggered it. My mum died , was going through an awful divorce . I was very unwell.

Don't blame yourself for getting it. You have to live life. Can't not do things for fear of this and that. It's much easier said than done but you have to distract yourself and try to reduce your stress. Stress won't help your immune system after all. I had a look at the AHCC - gulp - the cost is mad. I wonder if it's better to just regularly eat the mushrooms! Have you tried adding it to your diet?

Are you having any peri symptoms that could maybe be worsening your anxiety and adding to the potential flare up of the hpv? I assume you were symptom free of the hpv?

Michrose · 28/05/2025 17:21

No symptoms of HPV but you don't get symptoms . You can get cheaper ahcc but you have to take more in a day as not as strong. Yeah I don't know why they don't mention the strain of HPV . I thought if 16/18 you had to have a colposcopy regardless . You are right you have to live your life but I wish I knew what strain and why o wasn't told. Just was told it's was really common and not to worry . 😔

This probably won't help your anxiety but I looked into this and I think they only test for the high risk ones in the UK cervical screening. So we can assume it's the high risk one. Lucky us!! But if it helps, my friend cleared hers after two years and my other friend had the cells removed and they were not cancerous.

Michrose · 28/05/2025 17:39

Oh yeah I defo have high risk this I know but 16/18 are the most high risk and I thought you had to have colposcopy regardless with that one x

I’m on my third year of HPV positive. They don’t seem worried so I’m not worrying. Just waiting on biopsy results coming back.

Honestly have no idea, sorry. I’ve had abnormal cells removed before as well. It wasn’t pleasant but wasn’t major either. Please don’t worry xx

(easier said than done, I know)

babystarsandmoon · 28/05/2025 18:01

I have posted on a couple of these threads recently so it seems fairly common.

I am onto my third year HPV.

2023 - HPV Low grade. Biopsy came back CIN1
2024 - HPV No abnormal cells
2025 - HPV with low grade abnormal cells and awaiting another colposcopy.

Thegrassroots26 · 28/05/2025 18:07

You can get symptoms of HPV - genital warts. I would imagine the strains that are most common are those, rather than the cancer causing ones. You can also not have symptoms and have HPV.

Someone might correct me if I’m wrong but I think smears only look for the high risk ones and they aren’t the wart strains , the wart and cancer causing strains are different .

Oh I didn't know that. That's interesting.

Michrose · 28/05/2025 20:38

Yeah herpes isn't high risk strain.

Yes. I can only assume my body cleared the abnormal cells but because I still have HPV it’s reoccurred.

Currently waiting for my colposcopy appointment to see what happens now.

Yeah herpes isn't high risk strain.

Just to clarify, herpes is a different virus altogether to HPV, it’s HSV (human simplex virus).

Fingers crossed for you . I know it's quite normal but I think there is so much hype around it all now days and information that it can trigger anxiety .
