HPV back again! Gutted!!

Hello everyone… hoping for some reassurance and advice from anybody in a similar situation as I’m feeling a bit gutted about the whole situation 😞

Basically a bit of background, back in 2018 when k think HPV testing was slowing being rolled out, I tested positive and continued for the following two years when in 2020 I still tested positive but this time with low grade cell changes - went for colposcopy and biopsies show viral changes only, with consultant wanting to put me back on three year recall, I resisted this and he agreed to check me again in 12 months - good job really because I was still testing positive!

At this point I did change my lifestyle slightly, cut out alcohol (albeit I’ve never been a big drinker, but for the sake of this I gave it up) never smoked, but started taking AHCC and vitamins - fast forward to 2022 and I finally tested negative! Thank god I thought….. and was put back on a three year recall.

Anyway, 2025 rolls around and I’ve tested positive again along with low grade cell changes, I’m beyond gutted that this bloody virus just won’t go! I’ve got colposcopy next week and whilst I’m trying hard to stay rational…. I’m just so fed up 😞

anybody else had similar situations? X x

I’m in a similar situation but mines been constant for three years.

2020 Clear smear

2023 HPV and low grade changes. Biopsy came back as CIN1. They left them with a plan to monitor in 12 months.

2024 Nurse sent me for a colposcopy at my 12 month follow up smear as she was concerned about my cervix. Came back HPV but no abnormal cells. Plan to repeat in 1 year.

2025 - Smear has came back HPV with low grade cell changes so I am waiting for my third colposcopy.

I don’t drink or smoke, I exercise and keep healthy but I can’t shift the HPV.

Oh! I assumed it was for life just lies dormant sometimes?

sammie1306 · 26/05/2025 16:15

I think it does to an extent, but I guess we’re just sold the story that it clears on its own and never comes back…. But it seems like that’s not the case for sooo many people! 😞

I had cells removed in 2010 and had been fine since til after I’d been pregnant which must have activated it again . I’m due another smear now and if it’s positive I’ll have been positive for at least 5 years with abnormal cells which have come and gone . I’m also really pissed off it won’t go away .

From what I’ve read there’s no way they can tell if it’s properly gone or just dormant . Mine deffo wasn’t a new infection but a reactivation . I always had a feeling it would come back but really hoped it wouldn’t.

icelolly12 · 26/05/2025 16:21

Could your partner be passing it back to you?

sammie1306 · 26/05/2025 16:27

It’s rubbish isn’t it 😞 seems like this my life now! Jealous of those that just sail through it…. 😤

Thank you.. Good luck to you too.

I will be asking them what can be done as the leaflets I’ve had say most women clear HPV within 12-24 months and I don’t want to be going through this again every year.

Let us know how your appointment goes x

It’s an awful feeling knowing you have it
i also have intense guilt knowing I must have given it to my partner also and worry about him getting cancer in the future or that I might get cancer in other places other than cervix (throat cancer for example)
if I think about that too much I spiral
I’ve read about people paying hundreds for the vaccine as there’s vague evidence it can clear the virus as well as prevent it but I’d hate to spend that money only for it to not work . I’d spend any amount of money if it was guaranteed to work .
other than that I don’t think there’s much you can do other than concentrate on boosting immune system
I did try the mushroom tablets too . And really upped my vitamins , and funnily enough it did cure 2 verucas (which are also HPV) one of which id had for decades . I’d tried all sorts of remedies to get rid of them and they just went after my new vitamin regime. The mushroom tablets are expensive though and after my HPV hadn’t cleared I didn’t buy anymore .

sorry I’m rambling now . It’s always on my mind.

I'm due colposcopy. Looks like mine has been laying dormant for 20 years. I thought it had gone.

sammie1306 · 26/05/2025 18:21

Oh dear, hope you’re not feeling too bad about it ☹️ it really does sound like it can strike at any time then…. Fingers crossed for you. X

Interesting. Which vitamins & mushrooms did you use?

sameshizz · 26/05/2025 18:59

@moofolk it was AHCC and also increasing the usual like C and D and also iron as I’ve always been low on iron . I took a broad spectrum women’s multi but added any extra that weren’t up to 100% daily allowance like vitamin c

babystarsandmoon · 26/05/2025 22:45

I think as long as we keep up to date with our smears and monitoring then we are doing something right.
