Lumps on cervix??

Wrekt · 23/05/2025 12:24

Hi, 2 days ago me and my OH were DTD and the condom came off (sorry tmi) when I was getting it out I noticed 2 hard lumps on either side to the opening of my cervix.
I know how my cervix feels as I tracked it whilst TTC DD2 and still track it to naturally avoid pregnancy, I don't feel it much these days but I noticed a small lump ages ago but this time I wasn't even checking I just felt them as I was getting the condom out and now it's alot bigger plus the extra hard lump on the other side.
Please has anyone had this before and what did it turn out to be? I had my last smear in sept 2023 and it came back fine, not due for another one till sept 2026. I'm a bit worried about it being cancer.
I should also add I rang my doctors this morning and I'm booked in with a doctor next Wednesday in 5 days but I do tend to worry. I wish I could see in there myself!
Tia for any advice!

They are most likely to be Nabothian follicles - not dangerous. I’m assuming you are up to date with your smear tests.

babystarsandmoon · 23/05/2025 12:32

I am glad you are having them checked.

I was going to suggest Nabothian Follicles too as I have them - Mine were picked up during my smear test and I was sent for a colposcopy but I have never felt them myself.

Let us know what they say x

Yes I'm upto date with smears, hopefully it is that but with the size and how hard they are I'm not so sure

Thank you, do you ever feel your cervix? The lumps on mine are big and can't be missed, which makes me doubt that they are those cysts

You don't happen to have endometriosis symptoms? That can occur on the cervix sometimes.

Please try not to worry, you don't mention being a gynaecologist or a gynae nurse who feels 20 cervixes a day for comparison. Even if you are, you're going in blind and worrying about it. They're bound to feel enormous.

Id say they were the size of peas so they do feel quite big to me, but I'm defo no gyne!
I have stage 4 endometriosis and had a ovary removed due to it, but I honestly don't think it's endometriosis related. I was diagnosed at 21, I'm currently 38.
I'm hoping it's just those cysts, but I just wanted to see if anyone else has or had something similar

I haven’t felt mine but I have read that they can become quite large and need drained.

I think I would be a little reassured by there being more than one.

Thank you, yeah I suppose that is reassuring! I'm hoping AF doesn't start by then or I'll have to cancel and reschedule, I'm a little bit impatient when it comes to health stuff it makes me nervous lol

So it's my gp appointment in the morning! Not going to lie, I'm nervous. I'm praying af don't start overnight (fingers crossed) wish me luck!

Good luck!! Nabothian cysys are super common and often come in clusters (or more than one,), pea size sounds reasonable so hopefully the simple explanation is the one.

babystarsandmoon · 28/05/2025 09:31

Good luck!

Wrekt · 28/05/2025 11:05

Thank you ladies!
So I've just had my gp appointment. I didn't like her very much she was a locum. Kept questioning me on how I could feel or see the lumps on my cervix, I said I cant see them i can just feel them. I told her I had a tilted uterus and she said again so how can you feel them? I said it's easy to feel them!
So she had a look, said she couldn't see anything and my cervix looked pink, I said but they are defo there and easy to feel so she felt and agreed that they were definitely there. She said they felt cystic and that she would discuss it with a colleague during her break time and decide if to refer me to a gyne, but if they do it will be non urgent! So I might not hear anything for months. Don't know what to make of it, does this sound OK to you all?

Is she going to call with an update? I would book in with someone else for a second opinion if you get nowhere. Any lumps in the vagina or cervix should be referred as far as I am aware.

When the nurse saw my Nabothian Follicles (I don’t think she fully knew what they were) she got me to see a doctor the next day, booked me in for bloods and I was sent to colposcopy within 2 weeks.

I would argue that them not fully knowing what they are deserves a more urgent appointment.

Catlord · 28/05/2025 14:46

See what she comes back with and don't worry in the interim.

If she doesn't refer, I'd probably ask for a second opinion just to be sure, or a referral to gynae since Dr 2 hadn't examined and Dr 1 wasn't certain.

I think they could easily be cystic, it's not that, but I think it's good to push for a good standard of care. If they don't refer it's a bit casual to me. I think she should have asked Dr 2 and come back to you or asked her to examine.

Wrekt · 29/05/2025 11:55

She just said if she does refer me I won't know for a few months because it would be a non urgent referral! I've just looked on my nhs app and it says I have 0 referrals. I'll have to keep checking that to see if that updates. I feel awful asking for a 2nd opinion because I feel like I'm complaining, but suppose I'll have to if I've not heard anything in a week or 2. It does feel like she didn't take me seriously at all!

I had a polyp on my cervix for a while, it wasn’t seen during a recent colposcopy or smear so disappeared on its own.

Catlord · 29/05/2025 13:34

Could you call reception and check what's happening? Otherwise, sexual health clinic may be able to do an exam with speculum and may be able to give an idea? They see a lot of cervixes too and specialist Drs often have some background in OBs and Gynae. I'd speak to the team and explain what you want, they could probably do a smear and bloods and contraception review too.

Wrekt · 29/05/2025 15:53
  • I've just checked my NHS app again and it's been updated today, they have referred me to a gyne and requested a colposcopy. It quotes this 'Note - Diagnosis: ?nabothian cyst; Plan: colposcopy referral made' so looks like that is what she thought it could be! Or the doctor she spoke to about it on her break thinks that what it could be because she never mentioned that. It will probably be a while before I get an appointment but I'm so relieved it's being taken seriously! Thanks for all your kindness :)

Hi just a quick update, just looked on my nhs app again and it's have an appointment for a colposcopy on the 18th of June so a week on Wednesday. Atleast I think I have the message is a bit confusing. Starting to feel abit nervous and sick about it all now I don't wanna fall down that dark rabbit role that I did when I get referred for the 2ww for a kidney tumour. It was non cancerous thank God but I'm getting that dreaded sinking feeling. I'm not telling my family as last time I sank deep and wouldn't leave my bedroom for months, my partner and dad took a month off work and I cant do that again so keeping it to myself and hoping you ladies keep me sane 😬

I have a colposcopy on the 16th for abnormal cells. It will be my 3rd year in a row having one so I’ll be here waiting with you if you need to vent.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 09/06/2025 22:41

I'm glad you got a referral OP.

Hopefully you'll get some answers quickly.

Hi babystarsandmoon, sorry to hear this is your 3rd time in a row! Hopefully this will be your last time 🤞
Can I just ask what they are like please? I'm glad I've got someone to wait with and also you can vent to me too about anything! Isn't womens health scary at times?

I’m sorry to hear your appointment has been pushed back. How are you feeling waiting?

I am home from mine this afternoon. From being called in I was back out within half an hour.

They take a quick medical history as to why you are there and then once it’s time for the colposcopy they ask you to lie on a special chair with your legs up. They insert a speculum and look at your cervix through the colposcopy. At this point I had a couple of solutions put onto mine as it showed some abnormal cells and they then took 3 biopsies. I will be honest and say it stings but this may not need to happen for all as last time I went they didn’t do anything except look.

I find they very open and honest with you about what they think their finding are and the staff are brilliant at chatting away with you. I had 3 nurses in the room so don’t be alarmed if that’s the case when you go.
