Thickened endometrium post- mirena

I had the mirena fitted back in October. I’m 45, was getting stupidly heavy monthly periods and go suggested it might help. First had an ultrasound to check there weren’t fibroids or any abnormalities. Scan was clear. Anyway wind the clock forward 8 months and while I now don’t have to deal with heavy periods any more, I’m still getting them and also getting spotting/ brown blood on wiping for a couple of weeks minimum each month. GP said to get another scan to check the coil is inserted properly and once we know what’s happening there we will think about next steps. Had the scan today and the coil is exactly where it should be but the nurse scan I g me said my womb lining was thicker than she would expect. She didn’t tell me how thick and I didn’t ask because at that point it didn’t really register. Anyway she said gp may want to biopsy or investigate to rule out cancer. As someone with health anxiety (clue is in the name), that’s put the frighteners up me. I think rationally the nurse could probably just have a better bedside manner and also I am aware that they have to look at all possibilities but really? Another thing for me to worry about?

Hi OP, I'm sorry you're going through this. Similar issue myself but I'm on the mini pill and not mirena. I previously had a scan that showed a thickened lining. It was done by a consultant gynaecologist. I was surprised he didn't want to biopsy. He said it's very common in peri and thickened lining alone doesn't necessarily warrant something bad. He told me to go on mirena or the mini pill and allow time for it to settle...which I don't think it has. So off I go again soon to the doc for scary tests.

Hang in there OP. Keep us posted and feel free to rant if it eases the anxiety. Good luck.
