Cin1 after colposcopy

Laurasanford789 · 20/05/2025 14:03

Had a colposcopy following abnormal cells found on smear, moderate changes. Went to colposcopy in April nurse confirmed yes moderate changes, wouldn't do procedure at that time because I was due to go away next day. I have now had a letter following biopsy to say that it is cin1 they will do another colposcopy in 6 months ...anyone else had this happen? Why would it say moderate changes on smear and at the colposcopy appointment.. I am not second guessing what I'm being told I just don't understand it

Thank you

I don't think they grade them at smear stage?

@Loloblue hello, the letter following the smear said moderate cell changes found with HPV that's what was found when the smear test was sent off to be looked at sorry I might have worded it wrongly

I’ve heard the smear and colposcopy results are often different
my last smear showed low grade changes but the colposcopy showed nothing
I have to have another smear soon , I wish it would piss off now it’s been 5 years .

Results can differ between colposcopy and smear and sometimes visual results and cytology can also differ - any discrepancies will be taken to an MDT meeting.

Despite your smear showing moderate changes CIN1 can still resolve spontaneously hence the 6 month recall

Gotcha. They do vary. I had cin1 and I had loop procedure and been fine ever since. It's common. I know it's scary though.

Me too & if I remember correctly (we're going back over 30yrs ago) I had to have 6 monthly smears for the next 2yrs then yearly smears for another 3 years.
Ever since then touch wood 🤚🏼🪵 smears have been fine
