Hi Ladies,
Just thought I’d do a quick review of the mirena coil in case anyone’s had a similar experience or looking for a review.
I had it put in during a gynae appointment in December 2023. My appointment was originally to cauterise cervical ectropian but I asked about the coil and was told she could do it there and then. I probably should of thought about it first but hey ho, can’t change that now!
She told me that it would take about 6-12 months for my cycles to settle down and would make my periods lighter, shorter and with any luck, not there at all. I got to the 6 month point and nothing was any different so persevered to 12 months. They started to settle but I was bleeding for about 5-6 days (was 7-9 days before) yes it was lighter but I only had 2 weeks between periods.
I started noticing things that I could only put down to the coil- increased appetite, ridiculously sore boobs, tiredness, back ache. I started with perioral dermatitis in the November which I’m now wondering if it was down to the coil, I’ve read of a few others who have linked it. I’ve been in such a low mood, crying every day at the smallest things and had this heavy feeling in my uterus even after my period had stopped.
I called the doctors to book an appointment to remove it and was told I had to go on a waiting list but it wouldn’t be long. That was 3 weeks ago. I went today to get more doxycycline for my perioral dermatitis and mentioned it to the doctor who was fuming ‘what waiting list, who told you that?’ She said she could do it there and then and within about 3 minutes of mentioning it and completely painlessly, it was out!! Woohoo! Instant relief and that feeling of having something in my uterus was completely gone!
For anyone wondering what it feels like, it’s worse pulling out a tampon! They insert a speculum then use some long tweezer things to carefully grab the strings and gently pull. It’s a very light tugging feeling for about a second then it’s done.
I know not everyone has these experiences but I just wanted to put mine out there incase anyone had the same
