Help understanding cholesterol test

I’ve just had my cholesterol tested at the nurses office. I’m panicking because my HDL level was really low and they’ve sent off some more bloods.

Can anyone help me understand more about what might be going on here? I don’t smoke, drink much. I eat ok, probably too many biscuits and cakes. I am a bit sedentary.

Total cholesterol: 4.67mmol/l
HDL cholesterol: 0.69mmol/l
Total ratio: 6.7

This brings my total ratio way up and I don’t understand where such low HDL comes from. I eat a lot of good fats! Has anyone had similar results or can tell me more about what to do? My health anxiety is now through the roof.

I’ve just had mine today which is similar and like you I eat well etc
have a look at the cholesterol charity website www.heartuk.org.uk. It has lots of information

Thank you - I’ve had a look. I’m wondering if Cerazette is having an effect too for me. Any excuse to come off it! Plus I need to do more exercise and eat less chocolate/biscuits/cakes! Those pregnancy habits have got to go.

In case anyone happens upon this in future after a cholesterol test. My bloods came back today, the full lipid profile, taken at the same time (not fasting) as the previous one mentioned above and it’s all normal. My HDL is 1.4mmol/L.

Someone told me today that the finger prick tests can be way out so it seems like this was the case. I’ll still cut down on my cakes etc and do more exercise but just in case anyone freaks, get a full profile done at a lab to confirm!

@Meduse, if you are worried get them to do a full lipid profile - see my comment above about the finger prick tests not being as reliable!
