Hello!

I am a qualified medical herbalist with 20 years experience and have a clinic, apothecary and herbal tea business in Scotland.

My specialism is Women's Health, and I myself have been on a long journey in treating my own conditions of PCOS and infertility (I now have 3 children, 16, 6,3).

I support women every day with all kinds of women's health issues, including endometriosis, fibroids, perimenopause, PID, infertility and menopause.

I'd love to start a thread here discussing herbal medicine for Women.

What herbs have you used that have worked to support your health?

I love using native wild plants in season where possible. Right now there is wild raspberry around me and I am using the leaves as a tea. Lots of people know about it for pregnancy, preparing the uterus for birth, but it is a uterus tonic in general, and can help with a lot of conditions like endometriosis, excessive bleeding during menstruation. It's also great for after birth to keep drinking raspberry leaf tea, to help the uterus heal and repair and also to help the milk come in. It's a herb full of minerals and nutrients.

I think raspberry leaf is something I recommend to most women, because so many issues arise from the condition of the womb, and it is so toning to the tissues.

If you can ID raspberry, it's a great time to harvest the leaves which easily dry and can be stored in jars for up to a year.

If you would like to hear more about how herbs can support women's health, I am hosting a webinar on May 1st 7pm GMT (pay what you want)

I'll be giving everyone an Ebook and also a digital toolkit to track our monthly cycles and anticipate and stay on top of the hormone cycles.

I hope it's okay to share this here.

I would also like to start a thread on Women's Herbs here as I don't think there is a Women's Herbs one. What would be a good topic to start with?

Here's me drying some raspberry leaves (and plantain) in my dehydrator. I put both of these herbs in a tea for heavy bleeding during my period. At perimenopause I started flooding every month, and now I use herbs to help. Plantain is not often thought of as a Women's Herb, but it has been used traditionally to regulate women's flow. Raspberry leaf is a great astringent and uterine tonic and also helps with excessive bleeding. I also add yarrow and Lady's Mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris) to this tea, and drink it from the day before my period is due and for the entire duration of my cycle.

Tea:
Plantain leaves
Raspberry leaves
Yarrow- leaves & flowers
Lady's Mantle leave

Dry in dehydrator or in a low oven for 40 mins (with door open)

Crumble herbs into a jar and mix well. Drink 1tsp per pot boiling water and have about 3 cups per day during periods.
