Very heavy periods/big clots

I'm 37. My period this month is so heavy, I normally get heavy periods but this is ridiculous and getting fairly big blood clots in the toilet when I go wee. I am also starving no matter how much I eat. Last week I was getting full quickly and now I can't fill myself up! I've gone from constipation to dirahrea but then I do get IBS.
It's also more painful this month when it isn't normally.

I'm being referred to gyne for spotting in-between periods but they don't know about the blood clots at the moment as this happened after I saw the gp.

Do I just wait for my gyne app to come through? I could be waiting months? I can't see what the GP can do in the meantime?

There's medication you can take for the clots - tranexamic acid, it's very effective. You should probably take some additional iron as well. Definitely worth asking your GP

Sorry to ask OP but is it definitely not a miscarriage? Otherwise yes I would ask for tranexamic acid and await gynae

No it's not a miscarriage. I'm on 3 months supply iron tablets , I have one month left on those.
Thanks I'll ask for that medicine, I haven't heard of it before.

Just to add: I have since taken a pregnancy test as PP made me wonder and just in case. The test was negative. I assume if it was a miscarriage, it would be positive? I'm not really sure.

I had this when my iron was low. After a few months on 3 iron tablets a day it resolved. After bloods rechecked I was moved onto 1 iron tablet a day.

I think you should let your GP know and have a full blood count plus check of iron levels and other possible anemias to be sure but they might say wait for gynae appointment.

Thanks, I'm already on a high dose of iron that the GP gave me. I'm on my last month of taking them now. Also on other supplements and B12.

Sounds a bit grim but take a photo of your clots and get a GP appointment (easier said then done I know) and show them. losing that much blood can be dangerous

As PP have said there are lots of drugs out there that can help, even in the short term, whilst you push for gyne appointment
