How long does scaitica numbness last

Just above really. Since last week I've been in the worst pain of my life, especially in my calf. Been to the doctor and physio who confirmed scaticia and compression on the s1 nerve. I've been prescribed amitriptyline and diclofenac along with excerises.

The pain seems slightly better today but the back of my leg and half my foot are numb along with weakness. I'm wondering how long the numbness and pain can last. Also, any suggestions to help the pain. I've got 2 small kids and dreading the Easter holidays with the pain.

No. After the MRI I was offered physio or could go on waiting list to see a spinal surgeon, I opted for physio but tbh it didn’t help that much and I just live with it now. As I don’t want to have surgery. It no longer causes me pain so I can deal with the numbness.

@Wenway93if it was just numbness I'd take that aswell but the pain is terrible and I'm on crutches I can't do without them I have an autistic 7yr old SGS he's wild and I'm hopeless I can hardly help on a day out I can't carry bags I constantly moan and need to sit down

That sound horrible. I had terrible pain to start with but now I just get occasional calf cramps.
