Bleeding after sex, very worried.

Hello,

I have a history of abnormal cells and HPV. Have had a LLETZ in the past to treat this and follow up smear was normal.

However, one year on I am now experiencing bleeding after sex which is abnormal for me. I am due another colposcopy tomorrow and I’m very nervous as to what they’ll find. Has anybody else had similar, what did it turn out to be?

Can cancer or the cervix develop within just 1 year?

thank you.

I have had this twice and neither time was it cancer. There are loads of things that can cause bleeding, please try not to worry.

@MrsLeonFarrellthank you. Did they find a cause? Did you also have a colposcopy?

Mine was caused by cervical erosion. Easily treated.

Fibroids caused mine

II get this all the time, have been referred Twice for suspected cancer and negative both times. I have adenomyosis, endometriosis, severe cervical ectropion and have had several polyps removed, from both cervix and womb.

last time 3 GPs and 2 gynaes had had a look then the colposcopist found and removed yet another one they all missed. Poor DH got quite the eyeful, but was only the first appt he’d come to stop at least upped his sympathy levels.

best of luck

I had this 3 weeks ago, pinky discharge after sex. Assumed the sex was a little too rough/deep. Never got it checked out as didn’t happen again the next time I’d had sex.

if you’re very concerned, as a DR, but stay away from internet diagnoses, there’s plenty of reasons why this could happen, and a fairly decent chance it’s nothing major.

Thank you everyone. I guess with my abnormal smear in the past I’m worried they are back or got missed etc. it’s an anxious wait!

How old are you? I started with random bleeding as soon as I turned 40 .

caterpillars27 · 24/03/2025 14:49

@sameshizzi am 32. Did you have it investigated?

My siblings in-law went from a clear smear to cervical cancer within a year. I know it’s not nice to hear but you did ask.

Hopefully yours will be a harmless ectropian or similar.

caterpillars27 · 25/03/2025 17:49

@LollyLand so sorry to hear that. How is she doing now?

very relieved, mine was okay.

I had an abnormal smear with ciin3, 2 rounds of lletz and colposcopy.
I had bleeding after sex, it was caused by the mirena and weird cell growth (nothing sinister).

*Sorry just seen this is an old thread
