Trapped my nipple in a cupboard

Well this is a doozy!! We have an airing cupboard, with another cupboard above it. I was reaching for a fan in the upper cupboard, and leant against the airing cupboard door to extend my reach. I did not realise the tip of my right breast was in the top of the cupboard door, and trapped it in there 😭. The door shut tight and it took a while to get it open again.

2 hours later it is still throbbing and there is blood leaking out of my nipple. I can't go anywhere tonight to get it seen to as my daughter is in bed. Should I stick a cold compress on it? My God that hurt!!

I'm wincing just reading that. I don't think a cold compress would do any harm. Sending sympathy.

Ouch. I feel your pain!

Cold compress and try to stop the bleeding. Painkillers for the pain. If it doesn’t ease off I’d call 111 to see what they suggest

Gosh you poor thing!

I did similar once although actually trapped my nipple between a stack of plates when putting them from the dishwasher into the cupboard. Several of the heavy plates were on top and pinched it badly. Sounds implausible but is true!

It was incredibly painful for several hours and very tender for a few days afterwards. But absolutely fine after that.

But the pain was something else, so intense. It makes me wince just thinking back to it.

Good luck, I am thinking of you. I hope it wears off soon.

Cold compress is probably a good idea, I didn’t think of that at the time.

Vegboxwonder · 24/03/2025 00:29

If you can take ibuprofen, do - it will help with the swelling as well as the pain. And don't forget, you can take paracetamol with ibuprofen too. Definitely a cold compress and if it's still really sore in the morning, get it checked out. Huge sympathy - I've done similar before and it was sooo painful!

I’ve done almost the exact same thing in the past. Caught my nipple in a bedroom door hinge. DH said he had never heard a human make the sound I did when it happened and I’m not surprised. That pain was something else.

It was years ago now but I can say while it bled a lot at first, and it was definitely tender for a while after, it healed up perfectly well by itself and I never went anywhere to have it seen to. Painkillers helped, I didn’t try any compresses because I just didn’t want anything touching the area at the time.

You have my full sympathies though OP, unless you do it, I don’t think it’s possible to know the pain from it.

Thank you all so much, and thank you also for saying there is no pain like it-that was something else on the pain scale!! It is still sore today but nothing like last night, and it is more of a normal colour! Ibuprofen worked wonders!

I am so glad I am not alone in the nipple trapping!!

Glad it’s easing for you OP

BatchCookBabe · 25/03/2025 22:52

You'll be fine, and I'm glad it's easing a bit. But OUCH! Sounds pinchy. Hope you're OK!!! (..)

My old colleague shaved her armpit and inadvertently sliced off the end of her nipple as she moved the hand with her razor in away!!! Given the bites during BF that nips can endure, they’re pretty resilient things! But good god, OP! That must sting!!!
