Embarrassing smell down there

I keep noticing a strong odour down there, especially in my pants. No discharge but pants are slightly wet. I would not describe it as fishy but just a very strong musty odour?

I have been to the doctors but just seen on the app my swabs have come back normal for thrush or BV / infection.

has anybody else experienced the same thing? Any ideas? Little bit embarrassing.

Yes, sweaty crotch. Wash with proper soap, cotton knickers/trousers, and I use bum wipes when I need to.

Try a special wash, google "antibacterial intimate wash". There are quite a few available .

Have you done STI swabs as well, I know you say no discharge but possibly Trichomoniasis or gonorrhoea if you mention an odour and some increased discharge.

Otherwise do you wear a lot of synthetic leggings or undies?

AmythestBangle · 20/03/2025 08:30

Yes, also be sure to wear 100% cotton knickers and see if that helps.

Did they do full swabs?
Smear up to date? My friend had horrific smelling discharge when she had problems with her cervix.

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 20/03/2025 08:38

All of above. Also don't wear thong style underwear, wash your mound and the creases where your bits meet your legs properly as these get sweaty / whiffy too and use soap rather than shower gel

Do you shave under there? For me personally underarm or down there, if they grow more than a cm I also get very strong smell so I try to maintain it to be kept short.

I had this when I was post menopause and came off HRT. I had vaginal swabs taken and all was ok. I use wrights coal tar soap, keep pubic hair short, wear cotton pants and ditched the skinny jeans. I’ve noticed an improvement and I find now that if I do wear skinny jeans or similar crotch hugging trousers I have a stronger odour than normal. I am celibate (don’t know if that makes a difference). I had a hysterectomy and my cervix was removed so I was stitched up at the top of my vagina.

I think it’s a combination of age and changing hormones.

Thank you for the advice. I will definitely try the suggestions. Smear is up to date and also had a colposcpy last year which was normal. STI swabs were done, also normal.
