Hair shedding more than usual

I have always had very thick hair and have always lost a fair bit but lately it has been coming out so much, every time I touch it. I am really worried as I have 3 family members who had alopecia but they are too old to remember how it would have started for them. I've had a stressful few months having lost my Mum and I also have PCO but not the full whack syndrome PCOS ( I've never understood the specifics)

To add to this I'm almost 40 so could be perimenopausal? Has anyone been through anything similar and can help my spiralling head of disappearing hair!

Have you had your iron checked? I was losing a lot when my iron was low. Three weeks on Floradix and it’s definitely stopped shedding.

Yes I recently had a full blood count and it showed my iron was low (on the NHS app) but I have not seen the GP to discuss this, probably should make an appointment.

Seems very likely that’s the issue then. I would start taking a good iron supplement now and then the dr can prescribe one at the right dose once you get an appointment.

Thank you 🙏
