Does anyone here work in NHS breast screening?

I’m just interested to know how the process works with routine mammograms.

I had my first one three days ago and am anxiously awaiting the results. I was told it will be a letter in 2-3 weeks, irrespective of the result. I’m sort of hoping that if there was anything obviously sinister that I would get a phone call and a follow up appointment quite quickly, but is this just wishful thinking?

How soon are the X-rays usually read after being done?

TIA

I dont work there and haven't had one done either but I do know that when my Mum had one done she had a phone call a couple of days later to say she needed further screening as there was something that had shown up.
Thankfully it was nothing sinister, so from fanily experience you aren't made to wait if they notice anything worrying.

I had a phone call when they found something. It was just a cyst and they popped it. When I actually had breast cancer, the mammogram didn't detect it.

Thanks both.

@saveforthat I hope you're doing well?

Also try not to worry too much if you get a letter asking you to attend the breast clinic after your first mammogram, or even get a small biopsy in the clinic. It is fairly common after the first one and most find nothing sinister.

Your next routine mammogram they'll then have previous images to compare to so less likely to be asked to attend unless there has been changes.

Yes thanks, it was all sorted 3 years ago and clear since.
